About Shashi Tharoor Shashi Tharoor, born in 1956, is an Indian author, former United Nations peacekeeper, Member of Parliament, speaker, and a former Minister of State for External Affairs. He has penned down thirteen books, some of which are The Great Indian Novel, India: From Midnight To The Millennium, Riot, and Nehru: The Invention Of India. Tharoor is a graduate of St. Stephen's College, New Delhi. He completed his Ph.D. at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 1978. He then joined the United Nations, and remained there for nearly thirty years. He was India’s official candidate in 2006 to succeed Secretary-General Kofi Annan. His articles have been published in the Washington Post, TIME, New York Times, The Hindu, and many more. He is a columnist for The Asian Age / Deccan Chronicle, and Mail Today. He has also been a Contributing Editor for Newsweek International. Tharoor has won many awards, including the Rajika Kripalani Young Journalist Award, the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, Excelsior Award, Sarva Deshiya Prathibha, and many more. He was named the Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. The author lives in Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi.
