Indian women writing in English is being recognized as major contemporary current in English literature. The image of women in fiction has undergone a change during the last four decades. Women writers in post-colonial India have moved away from traditional portrayals of enduring self- sacrificing women towards female characters searching for identity and have created a literature of their own, placing women in the context of the changing social scenario, specially concentrating upon the psyche of such women. The present anthology, Indian Women Writing in English: A Feminist Study is a comprehensive literary study of Indian fiction in English produced by Indian women writers. Each essay engages with significant questions relating to the society and the status of women in India’s literature and history.
