Set in a near-future, Infinite Jest is the story of recovering addicts and students of a tennis academy as they search for a movie so entertaining that it puts whoever watches it into a catatonic bliss. Known for its semi-satiric portrayal of society, it explores how society views entertainment and touches on a variety of topics. Summary of the Book In the not-so-distant future, North America has merged into a single superstate known as the Organization of North American Nations (O.N.A.N). In the Year of the Dependent Adult Undergarment, the U.S. President issues orders which turn the northeastern U.S. and southeastern Canada into a hazardous waste dump. In these times, students of the Enfield Tennis Academy and patients of the Ennet House Drug and Alcohol Recovery House follow a lead on the trail of a dangerous movie. The Entertainment, as it is referred to, is a movie so entertaining that it leaves whoever watches it in a near comatose state. About David Foster Wallace David Foster Wallace was an American writer.
