This is a book about an independent young woman and her struggle to keep her identity in the traditional world. Summary of the Book Geeta is a highly educated girl from Bombay. She is married into a conservative family that does not allow her to do the things that she is used to. She is not give any independence and is made to live in her husband’s ancestral haveli. This and other traditions that she is forced to face have taken away all her freedom and restrict her progressive views on life. Still, she manages to fight and live by the values that she has always lived by. Inside the Haveli is an inspiring story of how she does her best to carve out an identity for herself in the stringent and orthodox atmosphere that she has been thrown into. About Rama Mehta Rama Mehta was born in Nainital. She was one of the first women to be appointed to India’s foreign service. She became a top sociologist, lecturer and novelist, and was forced to resign her position when she got married. She was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979 for her book Inside the Haveli.
