The main argument of this book is that the profession of planning must change faster than the change in order to plan even for the change. Planning must further develop itself info a profession whereby people are at the central stage. At the same time the planners must have a vision for the cities. It is proposed that the instrument of master plans must be replaced with more flexible structure or strategy plans. It is strongly felt that a constant interaction between planning practice and education is absolutely necessary. It is further contended that such interaction would be mutually beneficial. It is also strongly recommended that the planning students should be involved on a regular basis in the project that are being carried out by the professionals in planning practice. On planning education, a proposal is mooted to increase the duration of the Bachelor of Planning degree from the existing four years to five years in order to introduce a new intergrated degree in planning.
