The aim of this book is to address the social and organizational issues of information systems development, both at the operational level, and within a wider social context. It contains papers reflecting the state of research in diverse, yet related fields of study. The social foundations of technology is an area of interest in the social and technical sciences. This volume brings together research and studies which are concerned with the design, production and implementation of information technology within the context of the emerging social dimension. The book is aimed at supporting information systems courses and incorporating the behavioural element of sociology courses with an information systems content. The first part of the book looks at the societal impact of information systems and technology, it then progresses to look at social issues within the organization moving through to chapters addressing the organizational and methodological issues. The studies in this book reflect the environmental issues surrounding the development of information systems and the implementation of information technology.
