One type of sunglasses that was created is the aviator. The term "pilot's glasses" or "aviator sunglasses" originated with the purpose of protecting pilots' eyes during flight. They are distinguished by extremely thin metal frames with double or triple bridges (sometimes known as "bullet holes"), flexible wire temples that connect behind the ears, and black, frequently reflecting lenses that are two or three times the size of the eyeball. The big lenses have a small convexity instead of being flat. In order to exclude as much light as possible from entering the eye from any angle, the design aims to include the whole range of the human eye. Aviators were somewhat fashionable in the 1940s and 1950s before becoming widely accepted in the 1960s.
