Considered an all-encompassing encyclopedia and authority on the subject of irrigation, its management, and methodology, Irrigation : Theory and Practice is a thoroughly revised and updated version of the first edition, and takes into account the innovations and new technological advances affecting irrigation practices in the recent times. Summary Of The Book Irrigation : Theory and Practice has been revised, structurally changed and expanded to include the latest developments and innovative techniques related to the subject. Some chapters have been expanded on (with a view to providing a more intensive study of topics requiring further attention) giving rise to many new chapters such as Drip Irrigation, Underground Pipeline System, Surface Methods of Water Application, Open Channel Distribution in Command Areas, and Sprinkler Irrigation. These additions largely focus on techniques to improve the development of water as a resource for irrigation. Economic Evaluation of Irrigation Projects and Water Pricing Policy, Irrigation Wells, Lift Irrigation Systems and their Design, and Water Requirement of Crops and Irrigation Management are three entirely new chapters that have been added. Some of the other chapters include Soil-Plant-Water Relationships, Salt Management in Irrigated Agriculture, Utilisation of Water Resources and Irrigation Development, and Land Grading and Field Layout. This second edition includes these latest developments, making it a more extensive and updated version. About A. M. Michael A. M. Michael is a renowned figure in Water Resource Development and Management. He has authored and co-authored several books on subjects related to Irrigation and Water Resource Management. Some of his other books are Water Wells and Pumps, Handbook of Farm Irrigation Structures, Design and Evaluation of Irrigation Methods, Principles of Agricultural Engineering: Agricultural Surveying, Irrigation, Agricultural Drainage, Soil and Water Conservation, Water Resources of India and their Utilisation in Agriculture, and How to Improve Irrigation Farming in India. Dr. A. M. Michael is an M.Tech. and Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur. In his career that spans decades, he has been a consultant to International Organisations like the World Bank, the Director of IARI, New Delhi, and the Vice Chancellor, Kerala Agricultural University. He has also been a Resource Scientist for the University of Nairobi and the visiting professor at AIT Bangkok. He has also worked as the senior faculty in institutions such as the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Punjab Agricultural University and Rajasthan Agricultural University. Dr. A. M. Michael has been the recipient of many awards and honours such as the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Puraskar Award ICAR and the Kidwai Memorial Prize, for his outstanding contribution to the field of Water Resource Management and Development.
