He learns of the joys of freedom and makes many good friends along the way. Summary of the Book James lives with his two aunts who are horrible people. Things only get worse for him when his parents are killed in an incident that takes place in a zoo. When he moves with his aunts, they treat him badly and force him to work. They call him names and he is not allowed to have any friends or schooling. However, James’ fate changes when he meets an old man who gives him some magic beans. He accidently spills the bean in the garden and it grows into a peach tree with a gigantic peach that has grown at the top of the tree. When he climbs the tree and enters the peach, he is given a warm welcome by many insects that live inside it. Eventually, these insects become his best friends. Soon, the peach takes all of them to a place where they will live a happy and successful life with many friends. About Roald Dahl Roald Dahl was a British short story writer, novelist, poet, fighter pilot and screenwriter. He was born to Norwegian parents and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. During this time, he became an intelligence officer and a flying ace. He rose to the rank of Acting Wing Commander. His short stories are popularly known for their unexpected endings, and his children’s stories are unsentimental with a bit of dark humour.
