Jinnah: India Partition Independence by Jaswant Singh is a controversial book about the life of Mohammed Ali Jinnah and his role in the politics of British India, which contributed to the partition between India and Pakistan. Summary Of The Book In Jinnah: India Partition Independence, former Minister of Finance and External Affairs, Jaswant Singh, attempts to understand why the partition between India and Pakistan occurred at all and who was the actual mastermind behind this plan. It reveals the timeline of events that eventually contributed to the creation of the two separate nations, India and Pakistan. By writing this book, Singh forces readers to critically examine Nehru’s role in the division, and considers Jinnah as a federalist who was concerned about inclusivity. Singh presents several citations about Jinnah’s role. He states that Jinnah started as an ambassador for Muslim-Hindu unity, but later became the only spokesperson for all Muslims. This was one of the contributing factors that led to the development of Pakistan. Singh also tries to examine where the roots of dividing a nation between Hindus and Muslims into two separate nations originated from. In Jinnah: India Partition Independence, Singh presents some controversial statements such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s policy, which was responsible for the Partition and that Jinnah was unfortunately portrayed as a traitor who was solely responsible for the Partition. This book is well documented, and perhaps more heavily criticized than others because it is by a politician and policy maker, who is also an Indian. The book was published in the year 2009.
