Like many young Westerners in the 60s and 70s, Matteo leaves his home in Italy to search for spiritual enlightenment in India. Parallel to this narrative runs the "Mother"'s story, from her childhood in Egypt and her travels in Paris, Venice and New York, to her search for divine love in India.
