Journey to the Centre of the Earth is a classic adventure novel penned by Jules Verne. Three people embark upon a mission to discover a crater in an Icelandic volcano – one that will lead them into a secreted world underneath the Earth. Summary of the Book Professor Lidenbrock comes home to study his newest acquisition on a slow day of May: an original runic text of an Icelandic epic written by Snorri Sturluson. He finds a code left behind by Arne Saknussemm, and after decoding it, he comes to know that the Icelandic alchemist Arne had learned of a crater which led to the centre of the Earth. Following Arne’s memo, Lidenbrock takes his nephew Alex on what appears to be a hopeless expedition. They hire a guide called Hans when they reach Iceland. The trio reaches the volcano of Snæfellsjökull, where, as Arne’s message tells them, they do find their destiny! Although they successfully enter the mysterious place, they lose their path along the way. By the end of the path, they discover that beneath the surface of the Earth, a hidden realm exists, confined by the prehistoric age. They find out that ancient creatures are still roaming free, and apart from them, no one else knows about this place. They also know that this discovery will make them rich beyond their wildest dreams. But what is even more startling is the fact that as they venture out deeper into the place, returning might not even be left an option.
