This book presents the English translation of the Kamba Ramayana, the classic Tamil retelling of the Ramayana by the poet Kambar. Summary of the Book Kambar’s retelling of the Sanskrit epic is known for introducing many changes into the script of the story. His work is considered to be one of the greatest epics of Tamil literature, and many facets that the modern world associates with the Ramayana is attributed to his version as opposed to the original version by Valmiki. His Ramayana delves into the spiritual concepts of Rama’s ascendance to heaven and the specific details of the storyline which were never a part of the original. This book presents a modern English retelling of the original Tamil verse. About Kambar Kambar, or Kamban as he is also known, was medieval Tamil poet and writer. He is known for the Ramavataram, the Tamil version of the Ramayana. He has also written several other notable works in Tamil.
