Green Gram (Moong) Cultivation GuideIntroduction- Green gram, also known as moong, is a main pulse crop in India.- Rich source of protein, fiber, and iron.Cultivation- Can be grown as both Kharif and summer crop.- Suitable for a wide range of soils, but best results on well-drained loamy to sandy-loam soils.- Avoid saline and waterlogged soils.Sowing- Kharif sowing: - Row spacing: 30 cm - Plant-to-plant spacing: 10 cm - Seed rate: 8-9 kg/acre- Rabi sowing: - Row spacing: 22.5 cm - Plant-to-plant spacing: 7 cm - Seed rate: 12-15 kg/acre- Sow seeds at 4-6 cm depth.- Treat seeds with Captan or Thiram @3 gm/kg before sowing.Fertilization- Apply 5 kg of Nitrogen (12 kg of Urea) and 16 kg of P2O5 (100 kg of Superphosphate) per acre at sowing time.Irrigation- Kharif crop: Irrigate as needed based on climatic conditions.- Summer crop: 3-5 irrigations depending on soil type and climatic conditions.- Stop irrigation 55 days after sowing.Harvesting- Best time: When 85% of pods are matured.- Avoid over-ripening to prevent shattering.- Harvest with sickle, followed by threshing and seed cleaning.- Dry seeds in sunshine.
