Practical uses of this project : door occupancy indicator, if you have a bathroom it will indicate if someone is inside. This can also be used in a large work room that has tanks or machines that use valves, from afar you can check the safety valve status (open/close) simply by looking at the LED lights. Security conscious people can use this at night, even if the lights are out, you can see if the doors are shut or not.
