In this brief dictionary related to the words of foreign origin used in Kumauni, the Kumauni form of the word is given in the first place, then grammatical information such as noun, gender, verb, adjective, adverb, etc. is given. After this, the word of the original language is given in its original form and to indicate the original language, symbols like “E” (English), “P” (Persian), “T” (Turkish) etc. are given, and along with it, its meaning is explained through various synonyms in Hindi. At the end, various synonyms in English are given. Kumauni proverbs, idioms, folk songs, various usages, etc. have been quoted at appropriate places as per the need so that the reader can know how and since when these words have been used in Kumauni. All these words are an integral part of the Kumauni vocabulary, but in the present times, as their usage in common parlance is gradually decreasing, these words are in danger of becoming extinct or on the verge of extinction, just like the Kumauni language/dialect. Just as usage in public is necessary to keep a language alive, similarly any dictionary has a major contribution in preserving old words.
