Labour law mediates the relationship between workers, employers, trade unions and the government. Collective labour law bounds up with tripartite relationship between employee, employer and union, while individual labour law concerns employees' rights at work, and contract for work. Employment standards are social norms for the minimum socially acceptable conditions under which employees or contractors are allowed to work. Modern industrial relations are a blend of traditional systems and innovations. Some features of the earlier system persist and, therefore, they lead to conflict with new practices, creating challenging problems for the management as many of the changes may be opposed by workers. In India, industrial democracy plays a vital role in the solution of welfare issues but its role is minimal in decision-making at the policy level.
