Lady Windermere’s Fan is a plays that satirizes the morals of the Victorian society. It is especially concerned with morality surrounding marriages and affairs. Summary of the Book Lady Windermere’s marriage to Lord Windermere is one of high reputation and she is a good and faithful woman. Rumour has it that Lord Windermere has been having an affair with a strange woman, Mrs. Erlynne, and has been paying her many visits since the time they have been introduced. The news has reached Lady Windermere, who confronts her husband about this, only to find that he is determined to not reveal the identity of the woman. Feeling betrayed and in a fit of rage, Lady Windermere starts to ignore her husband’s attempt to talk to her and is cold towards Mrs. Erlynne at her birthday party. In the meantime, Lord Darlington reveals to Lady Windermere that he loves her and asks her to be with him. Reluctant at first, and frustrated, she later leaves her home in search of Lord Darlington leaving behind a note. Mrs. Erlynne learns about this through the note, but she now has an even bigger secret that she has discovered. She is determined to ensure that Lady Windermere goes back to her husband and does not do anything immoral. Will Mrs. Erlynne be able achieve this and make it the one good deed that she has ever cared to do? About Oscar Wilde Oscar Wilde was an Irish writer and poet.
