Treasure Island can be considered as one of the best pirate stories to have ever been written. It is a story about buccaneers and buried gold. As the story goes, readers will find that it is also a coming-of-age story. Summary of the Book Jim Hawkins, the innkeeper’s son, has come to be the owner of the map of Treasure Island. The legendary destination is known to all pirates, as an ample amount of pirate loot has been buried there. Captain Smollett, Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney join Jim and help him in his quest to find the treasure. During the time of the journey, Jim learns a lot from the three men, and the relationship between Jim and Silver gets stronger. As Jim learns about friendship, loyalty, courage and honor, we see how he becomes a responsible young man. About Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a Scottish novelist and poet best remembered for his adventure novels, including Kidnapped and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Stevenson is one of the most translated writers in history, and has many memorials dedicated to him throughout the world. Treasure Island was adapted into several hit films, including a version in 1950 by the Walt Disney Studio, and another in 2002, entitled Treasure Planet, which adapted the story with a futuristic vein through animation.
