He is considered a pioneer in the field of quantum mechanics. This book, Lectures On Quantum Mechanics, is a compilation of four lectures he delivered in 1964 at Yeshiva University, New York. In the book, the author explains mathematical methods in quantum mechanics. He begins by using a classical physics approach to visualize quantum theory. He uses the Hamiltonian Method for this. The other chapters then build on this foundation. After using the Hamiltonian method to provide an introduction to visualizing quantum theory, the author goes on to explore the idea of evolving a relativistic quantum theory on curved surfaces. He then declares that while this is not possible, it might be possible to arrive at such a theory on flat surfaces. Lectures On Quantum Mechanics consists of four lectures, The Hamiltonian Method, The Problem of Quantization, Quantization on Curved Surfaces, and Quantization On Flat Surfaces. After the foundation is laid in the first lecture, he goes on to explain in the second, how it is possible to begin with a classical field theory to arrive in the end at a quantum field theory. In the final chapter, Quantizations on Flat Surfaces, he shows how it might be possible to set up basic equations for a quantum theory that agrees with the special relativity theory, even if not with general relativity. Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac was born in Bristol, England in 1902. His father was from Switzerland. Paul Dirac and his siblings remained Swiss citizens until 1919 when they acquired British citizenship. Paul Dirac studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Bristol on a scholarship. He graduated with honors then earned another degree in Mathematics. He is renowned for his pioneering work in the field of quantum mechanics. He shared the 1933 Nobel Prize for Physics with Erwin Schrodinger. He was a faculty member of the University of Cambridge as the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. He was also presented with the Order of Merit in 1973, Royal Medal, and many other honours. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 82.
