This book consists of 32 chapters, each in the form of a letter that the author wrote to his brother. He was at the British siege of Srirangapatnam in 1799 and held the rank of a captain there. The first letter is dated 26thDecember 1808 and the last was written on 31 st December 1809. Amongst the description one finds a full disposition of a Maharatha camp; a sketch of the Scindia king; a description of chambal and its fauna; an eye witness of the festival of Muharram; a description of the festival of Holi; a description of a Nautch; the murder of the Scindias father in law; an account of Dussera; a visit to Ajmere and other Signals and sounds that he encountered on his duties. 19th century - Nineteenth century
