This is an annually updated listing, with addresses, telephone, fax and telex numbers, of over 1400 major libraries and library authorities in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The libraries fall into three categories. The first are all public library authorities in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Entries are given for headquarters libraries, plus the main administrative, divisional, area and regional libraries identified by the authorities concerned. The second are libraries in academic institutions. This listing comprises university libraries, including those of the newly accredited universities, and libraries in institutes of higher education, together with major department and site libraries identified by the institutions concerned. The third are selected government, national and special libraries, together with departments of librarianship and information science.
