Carrot seeds are small, typically 3-4 mm long, and have a pale, angular, and somewhat rough surface. While the main purpose of carrots is the edible root, the seeds are used in traditional medicine for their antiseptic, carminative, and detoxifying properties, and they are also used in perfumery for their woody scent. The carrot plant produces a distinctive umbel of flowers, and after pollination, the seeds develop in a dried fruit called a schizocarp.
