About William Faulkner William Cuthbert Faulkner was an American novelist, short story writer, poet, essayist and playwright. He is best known for A Fable, The Reivers, As I Lay Dying, and Absalom, Absalom! Faulkner was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949 and he also won the Pulitzer Prize twice. The Sound and the Fury was very loosely adapted into a film in 1959, directed by Martin Ritt.
