Godin was born on the 10th of July, 1960, in Mount Vernon, New York. He completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Computer Science from Tufts University in 1979. After that, Godin went on to study at the Stanford Graduate School of Business for his MBA degree. He then worked for three years as the brand manager for Spinnaker Software. After leaving Spinnaker, he launched Seth Godin Productions, which was a book packaging business. He currently resides in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, US, along with his spouse, and their two sons.
