South Asia has emerged as a prominent area of academic interest and critical enquiry in the last few decades and even while the region is marked by rich linguistic and cultural diversity it has shared social, political, economic and historical concerns. Literatures of South Asia is an attempt at engaging with issues relating to diverse cultural and literary modes of expression, distinctive literary strategies and devices deployed in mapping similar socio-historical concerns, regional literary and cultural expressions, gender, marginality, so on and so forth in an effort to understand the region in all its complexities and comprehend the dynamics that have shaped the region and given it a distinct identity. The papers included in this collection are all representative stances taken on the common yet varied legacy of South Asia as a conceptual and emotional entity, handed down through generations of people with common goals, problems and history.
