Summary of the Book The book tells us the story of four sisters who come from a family that does not have a lot of money, but the four have the strongest bond. Their father is always away at war, but they manage to face all their hardships by working together and through their love for each other. They even have their own share of fun and form their own secret society. They manage to make it through in life even with all the sisterly quarrels, happy times and sadness. All four of them lead very different lives and learn that life can sometimes be very hard. Still, it is easier to survive when they have each other. About Louisa May Alcott Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist who is best known as the author of Little Women. The book has two sequels to it: Little Men and Jo’s Boys. Her parents were transcendentalists and she had grown up around many intellectuals of the time who are well-known even today, like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau. She received appreciation for her writing in the 1860’s, and has sometimes use the pen name A. M. Barnard that was used for her novels for young adults.
