About Louisa May Alcott Louisa May Alcott was an American novelist who is best known as the author of Little Women. The book has two sequels to it: Little Men and Jo’s Boys. Her parents were transcendentalists and she had grown up around many intellectuals of the time who are well-known even today, like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau. She received appreciation for her writing in the 1860’s, and has sometimes use the pen name A. M. Barnard that was used for her novels for young adults.
