Lord of the Flies is a dystopian novel telling the story of British boys stranded on an uninhabited island after a plane crash. Summary of the Book An allegory on politics, this novel tells the story of a group of boys stuck on an island. The boys decide to govern themselves, and the eldest becomes the unelected leader. The boys quickly begin clashing between themselves over the mode of governance and the matter rises to mirror the political situation of nations of the world. Their innocence soon vanishes in a world of their own and soon they begin to do anything to seize power, even murder. The novel speaks out against political parties everywhere, becoming an allegory of politics and cutthroat mechanisms of governments. About William Golding William Golding was an English writer and playwright. He is best known for this and his other works, including: Rites of Passage, Pincher Martin, Darkness Visible, The Pyramid, and The Scorpion God. Golding was a decorated writer, and won the Nobel Prize, the Pulitzer Prize and Man Booker Prize for his work. The current title was selected by TIME magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. Lord of the Flies was adapted into a few major motion pictures, most notably in 1963 by Peter Brook starring James Aubrey, Tom Chapin, Nicholas Hammond, and Hugh Edwards.
