DREAMCATCHER: WHAT IS IT? A dream catcher is a handcrafted willow hoop that has been woven into a web, or more accurately, a net, in several Native American cultures. Feathers and beads are also components of a dream catcher. They have historically been protected and armoured by being suspended from cradles. Dreamcatchers, also known as "Sacred Hoops," have long been used as talismans to shield children and other sleepers from nightmares and terrible dreams. Native Americans have the view that both pleasant and unpleasant dreams can be found in the night air. The dream catcher draws and gathers all kinds of dreams and thoughts into its webs when it is hung above the bed in a location where the morning sunshine can shine on it.
