Machine Component Design is a comprehensive book for undergraduate mechanical engineers. The book has been designed for a one or two semester course in machine design. It teaches students about the basic principles of design, helping them understand how bodies take loads and feel stresses. Explaining about how materials fail in various ways, the book progresses to discuss the effects of impact loading and repeated loading. The latter half of the book discusses the applications of the principles, teaching students how the basics are applied to design various parts of machines such as threaded fasteners, rivets, welds, springs, bearings and gears. In addition the book also discusses shafts, clutches and brakes, giving students a wide armament of knowledge from which to draw from in the professional world. It is an indispensable resource for all mechanical engineers. About the Authors Robert C. Juvinall was professor emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. A Medical undergraduate, Dr. Juvinall took up postgraduate studies in mechanical engineering. Kurt M. Marshek is professor emeritus at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Marshek graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and obtained his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
