'Mahanayak' is a great Indian novel based on the life and work of Subhash Chandra Bose. In this, Vishwas Patil has chosen such a great personality of India as the hero who can become the hero of any epic.Subhash Babu was one of those great men who were blessed with sharp intelligence, emotional energy, sharp thinking ability by birth and every atom of whose personality was excited by the grand dream of liberating his enslaved mother India. He had imbibed western knowledge and learning, along with that the energetic spiritual tradition of India, which had filtered through Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Vivekananda, was the main source of his personality and work. Subhash had such a personality whose tremendous attraction had influenced everyone from Hitler to Japan's Prime Minister Tojo and whose fear had given sleepless nights to leaders like Churchill.
