This book makes an in-depth study of the system of marriage, family and kinship among the Paite tribe of Manipur. Discussing the geographical features of the state, it traces the origin and history of the Paite tribe. Taking into account the pre-Christian social customs and traditions of Paite community, it discusses at length the various existing rituals and practices related to marriage, family and kinship. It also examines their traditional political structures and ways of control to contextualise the concept of marriage, family and kinship. The impact of Christianity on the lifestyle of the Paite tribe has been reviewed as well.
