A puja bell, also known as a ghanti, is a hand-held bell that is rung during aarati while offering other puja items to a deity with the other hand. The sound of the bell is said to be auspicious, welcoming divinity and dispelling evil. It is also believed to ward off evil spirits, help the mind focus, and produce the sound Om, the universal name of the Lord. Some also recommend ringing the bell in the home and workplace every day for a few minutes to chase away negative energy and bring in positive energy.
