This book contains a hilarious collection of autobiographical essays. Summary of the Book This book is a collection of essays that were inspired by David Sedaris’ move to Paris from New York. It comprises of a title essay that describes his attempt to learn French. His French teacher was not too fond of teaching him and told him, “everyday spent with you is like a Caesarean section”. The strange characters that his family members happen to be were also an inspiration for this book. The book is separated into two parts: One and Deux. In the first part, he tells us about his life before he moved to France. He speaks of his odd jobs in New York City and a visit from his childhood friend. Deux talks about his life in Normandy, France. He moves there with his partner Hugh and finds humour in the fact that he is living in France without knowing any French. About David Sedaris David Sedaris is an American humorist, comedian, author, and radio contributor. He rose to recognition when National Public Radio broadcast his essay, SantaLand Diaries, in 1992. His first collection of short stories, Barrel Fever, was published in 1994. His next five essay collections were: Naked, Holidays On Ice, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames.
