MINIATURE SUNFLOWER SEEDS Product Description Type of seed : Hybrid Germination Rate : Min 70.00% Sunlight : Full Life-cycle : Annual Ease-of-care: Easy Scientific name: Helianthus annuus Sunflowers are annuals with showy, daisylike flowerheads bright yellow (though occasionally red). Tall and course, the plants have creeping or tuberous roots and large, bristly leaves. Today, varieties have even been developed for small spaces and containers, this miniature variety is one such. They make excellent cut flowers and many are attractive to bees and birds. Sunflowers have many uses such as for producing bio-diesel and cooking oil. But the best use of a sunflower is to brighten up your garden during the sunnier months of the year, or even to brighten the greenhouse or a sunroom any time of the year. Planting/Growing Tips: Harvest in 70-80 days Sow in garden. Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Best planted at soil temperatures between 18ÁC and 38ÁC. Space plants: 10-15cm Maintenance and care: Soil types are not too much of a problem for sunflowers. Well-drained soil with lots of peat, compost, or manure will help them to grow tall and strong. It is best to leave sunflowers where you plant them. Transplanting does not work well with sunflowers. Remember that sunflowers will grow very tall and can shade out other plants if you are not careful. Sunflowers always point to the direction that the sun rises, so consider this when planting. Keep the area around the sunflowers weed free, and do not use chemicals or sow grass seeds near them. It is better to plant fewer sunflowers if you donÍt have much room because the more they are forced to compete for nutrients, the less strong each individual plant will be. If you have pesky birds picking the seeds out, place polyspun garden fleece over the sunflower heads to prevent the seeds from being eaten by pests.
