Upadhayay, after obtaining his master's degree in social work from M.G. Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varansi joined and worked with an American Cultural Anthropologist as a research assistant for a few months after which he took up the job of a C.O. In the Tribal Wlefare Department of M.P. State Government. In 1964, he joined Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi as a psychiatric social worker. In 1968, he took overs as Assistant Professor (Founder-head) of DPSW/M.Phil in Psychaitric Social Work. Programme at the same institute. In 1976, he visited U.S.A. And gained experience of working with psychiatric patients. He is founder-president of India Society of PSWs and founder-editor of Indian Journal of Psychiatric Social Work. Prof. Upadhayay founder-Chairman of Social Work Department at Kurukshetra University retired recently. He has ten books and many research papers to his credit. He is now busy working with his earlier work on Indian alongwith his prospects on community empowerment. Dr. Sandhya (Late) was a Senior Lecture in the Department of Social Work, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. She worked in the area of women welfare and mental health of women.
