The book has been planned to serve as a textbook for undergraduate students of Metallurgical Chemical and Mining Engineering. It will also serve as a useful reference book for the postgraduate students of Ore Processing/ Mineral Dressing and Applied Geology. The subject matter is updated and thoroughly revised. Various corrections are also incorporated. The subject matter has been arranged in 20 chapters. The first four chapters deal with minerals and background of mineral processing. Next two chapters deal with comminution (crushing and grinding) being an essential step in all ore processing flow sheets. Chapter 7 deals with movement of solids in fluids and classification the understanding of which is essential in the design of solid-liquid separation and classification units. Gravity concentration methods have been discussed in three chapters. Due consideration is given to the importance of flotation in chapters II 12 and 13 to cover the history and theory flotation reagents and their action and flotation practice and machines. Chapter 14 deals with magnetic and electrical separation being important in the concentration of magnetic and conductive minerals. Chemical treatment of ores has been discussed in chapter 16. Chapter 17 details the application of microscopy in ore processing. The industrial treatment of ores is given in chapter 18. Chapter 19 highlights the increasing use of computers and automation. Finally chapter 20 covers location layout and selection of equipment.
