About the Book:This anthology of short stories cuts across the languages, cultures and communities to represent India and her diversity. It includes writings from pre-independence period and post- independence, by men and women, to trace the growth, development, changing priorities as well as changing problems of a country burgeoning into the twenty first century. There has been an attempt to see the old issues under new lenses by trying to select stories by stalwarts which have been so far sparingly translated or not translated at all, along with contemporary stories by modern authors with all their freshness and vigour. This apart, an important objective of this anthology is to bridge the gap between the differences of perception of men and women with an effort to initiate dialogue between the sexes -thereby interrogating the possibility of creating a future based on cooperation and understanding which could lead to a holistic and egalitarian society with proactive people.About the Editor:Dr. Sharmistha Chatterjee (Sriwastav) is Assistant Professor in English at Aliah University, Kolkata, West Bengal.
