Ostensibly an appreciation of the rites and ceremonies of the ancient Jews and their importance in the development of Christianity, this 1848 volume is most striking today for its old-fashioned concepts of tolerance and understanding. From the process of siting and erecting the ancient temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem to the sacred duties and ritualistic garments of the high priests of old to explanations of the deeper meanings of Jewish festivals such as Pentecost and Passover, Rev. Fraser, in attempting to connect us to Judaism's perception of God's hand at work in the universe, instead offers the contemporary reader remarkable insight into the religious mind-set of the mid 19th century.
