It is widely recognised that global warming has been largely caused by human action and, specifically, the production of greenhouse gases. It is also agreed that oil is a finite resource that may have already passed the point of peak production. The ways that we move are the second largest producer of greenhouse gases and the largest consumer of oil, meaning that these fluid days may be numbered. Drawing on an innovative project exploring current mobility transition policies and practices in 14 countries around the world, including key institutions such as the European Union and the United Nations, the authors provide a critique of current transitions, mobility and transport policies. There is no single book based on a single primary research project across so many global contexts that tackles this topic, and which presents and alternative, progressive approach to, and conceptualization of, mobility transition. The authors consider how our mobility futures have been imagined, what they will potentially look and feel like, what lives we might live in them and what choices we might have to make to get there.
