Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy play by William Shakespeare. Summary of the Play Leonato is a respectable nobleman living in the small Italian town of Messina. He lives with his young daughter, Hero, his brother Antonio and Antonio’s clever daughter Beatrice. Leonato welcomes back some friends, who have returned from a war. Among these are Don Pedro, a prince and a close friend of Leonato, and two fellow soldiers: Claudio, a well-respected young nobleman, and Benedick, a clever man who constantly makes his friends the target of his witticisms. Claudio soon falls in love with Hero, but Benedick and Beatrice resume insulting each other through their witticisms as they have in the past. Claudio and Hero decide to get married and, in the week before the wedding, the lovers and their friends decide to play a small game. They want to get Benedick and Beatrice to stop squabbling and fall in love. However, Claudio and Hero have no idea that another prank is being planned behind their backs, and it could ruin their relationship in a grand yet hilarious fashion that only the Bard of Avon can manage.
