Mystic River is a novel written by Dennis Lehane. It was adapted into an Academy Award-winning movie in 2003. Summary of the Book This Dilys Award-winning novel depicts the lives of three friends – Dave Boyle, Sean Devine, and Jimmy Marcus. Dave is kidnapped by child molesters while he was horsing around in a neighbourhood lane with Sean and Jimmy. Days later, he comes back home shattered by the whole experience. The story then fast forwards to 25 years later when Sean has become a homicide detective and Jimmy, an ex-convict, owns a convenience store. One night, Jimmy’s daughter is found ruthlessly killed in a city park. The same night, Dave goes home smeared in blood. Will the lives of three childhood friends cross paths again when Sean takes up the investigation of the murder? About Dennis Lehane Dennis Lehane is an American novelist and screenwriter. He occasionally makes guest appearances in the TV series called Castle on ABC. Some of his novels are adapted into films, including Gone, Baby, Gone and Shutter Island. The other titles penned by Lehane are The Given Day, Live by Night, and The Drop.
