ABOUT THE BOOK This book takes the reader through India’s journey in the arena of soft power from ancient times until the contemporary era. India as one of the oldest civilization has had its long path of journey from being called the “Golden Bird” to becoming one of the most important countries in the world today at the global podium. Today, the importance of India has ascended due to the power shift in the global geopolitics as many scholars and experts talk about the rise of the “Asian century”.This book is an in-depth study conducted on India’s soft power, which includes predominant elements on soft power such as civil society, foreign policy, public diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and likewise a comparison with the soft power of China. The book on the whole aims at revisiting the country’s super-abundant sof† power, appreciating the several rich soft power aspects that Mystic India possesses. It also highlights the several gaps that require to be filled for the country to further work towards advancing its soft power in the 21st century to become a “soft power-superpower”. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ms. Preethi Amaresh is a Political Scientist and an Indian Author, who completed her Doctorate in International Relations (DIR) at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, Switzerland. She is the author of three internationally published books, “Nihonomics: Economic Foreign Policy of Japan”, “Nànmín: Concavity of China’s Refugee Policy” and “Ninaegan Mae: The Stateless (Rohingya of Myanmar). Ms. Amaresh has written many articles on world affairs for leading international magazines andjournals. During her Doctorate programme she was a visiting scholar at several prestigious universities and institutions such as (NIAS-University of Copenhagen), Moscow State Institute of International Relations”(MGIMO), Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), South African Military Academy (Stellenbosch University) etc. Prior to her Doctorate programme, Ms. Amaresh has interacted with several International audiences and has presented her research papers in several countries and various leading Indianinstitutions. She holds double Masters degree in General Psychology andInternational Relations and was the 2017 Gold Medalist in International Relations from University of Madras. She has also earlier worked and interned in renowned organizations.In 2021, the Foreign Ministry of India invited Ms. Amaresh where she received wide appreciation for her work on “India’s soft power”.
