Arun Joshi is a new star in the galaxy of luminaries of literature. In his novels he raises the question 'Who you are?' which has puzzled mankind from times immemorial. Arun Joshi has answered this ticklish question in different ways in his novels. This novel is a political novel showing that the rulers of this city-state like most rulers of the modern world are over-ambitious, selfish and greedy. They have no qualms in taking measures to suppress the voice of democracy. Autocracy of the rulers is challenged by democracy of the people. The ruler's sycophants cross-over to the other side, so much so the ruler is left naked of goodness and good friends. It is, in a way, an advice to the rulers not to raise bogey of 'enemies within and without' because people know that it is a pretext to clamp Emergency on the country. The rulers are told that the voice of the people cannot be suppressed. After all 'vox populi vox dei'. The novel, in essence, is the mirror and criticism of society.
