Nationalism is an extraordinary collection of lectures delivered by Rabindranath Tagore during the First World War. Gurudev wrote this book when most of the nations of Europe were involved in fierce battles. Tagore urged his audiences in Japan and the America to avoid political aggressiveness and cultural arrogance. He urged the nations to expand their horizons and bring about a synthesis of tradition and modernity between the East and West. Nationalism in the West comprises a series of lectures delivered throughout the United States during the winter of 1916-17. Nationalism in Japan is a collection of lectures delivered in Japan before the Imperial University and the Keio Gijuku University in June and July, 1916, while Nationalism in India, is the poet’s reflection upon the state of his own country. About Rabindranath Tagore Rabindranath Tagore was an Indian poet, writer, musician, painter, philosopher and politician. His writings are considered the epitome of Bengali literature and several of his short stories and novels have been translated into many languages and have subsequently been adapted into movies. He is best remembered for Gora, Kabuliwallah, The Home and the World, and Chokher Bali. He was the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for the English translation of the Gitanjali. He was also conferred a knighthood by the British Empire which he renounced to protest against the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
