‘Native American & Native Indians’ is based on the author’s study of the tribes in the Southwest of the United States of American. A study based on actual field-work as well as on research conducted at Museums and libraries in the U.S.; it brings out the authropological facts about the major tribes in the region. It highlights the socio-cultural aspect of the tribes and focusses upon the striking similarities between the tribal culture in the American Southwest and the major tribal groups in India. The adoption of Christianity and the impact of white American culture has not eroded the historically inherited tribal culture which shows its ethnic roots in Asian and even in Indian culture of the part ages. About the Author Dr S G Deogaonkar holds M.A. degree in Political Science, M.A. in Public Administration, LL.M. in Constitutional Law and a Doctorate degree in Social Science. He retired as Head, Department of Political Science in 1998 after 38 years of Teaching in colleges and University, His Research is mainly on Tribes and tribal development and has directed many research projectsforthe ICSSR, U.G.C. Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
