About Gulzar Sampooran Kalra, also known as Gulzar, is an acclaimed Indian lyricist, poet, and director. Some of his titles are Magical Wishes: The Adventures Of Goopy & Bagha, Raat Pashmine Ki, Meelo Se Din, Autumn Moon, and Kuchh Aur Nazmein. Gulzar began his career as a lyricist, under directors Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Bimal Roy. He has many award winning associations with famous music directors such as A. R. Rahman, Madan Mohan, and Vishal Bhardwaj. Gulzar made his directorial debut with Mere Apne in 1971, followed by Parichay and Koshish. As a poet, Gulzar has a vast knowledge of the structure of Urdu. He invented the triveni stanza. He is married to Bollywood actress Raakhee. The pair have a daughter. In his lifetime, Gulzar has won 11 Filmfare Awards for Best Lyricist and 4 for Best Dialogue.
