News of a Kidnapping is Gabriel Garcia’s non-fiction work that recounts the kidnapping, imprisonment, and the release of a bunch of prominent figures in Colombia, by Pablo Escobar, in the early 1990s. Summary of the Book Pablo Escobar was a rich and notorious drug lord of Colombia, an exclusive cocaine trafficker who was called The King of Cocaine, and had once run Medellin Cartel. When one of the Colombian presidents was determined to expel him to America, Escobar planned the best way to rebel against it – by keeping a bunch of famous Colombian personalities as hostages, most of whom were women. This book vividly narrates the terrifying incident, a dark chapter in the history of Colombia. About Gabriel Garcia Marquez Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez was a Colombian writer of novels, short-stories, screenplays and journalistic columns. He is best remembered for: One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Autumn of the Patriarch and Love in the Time of Cholera. Marquez won much acclaim for his contribution to Colombian literature, including the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1972 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. His works were often based around a fictional village called Macondo and explore the themes of solitude and magic realism.
