Nicholas Nickleby is a classic novel of English literature by Charles Dickens. Summary of the Book Nicholas Nickleby and his family are faced with misfortune as his father dies, leaving them penniless. They travel to London to seek the help of Ralph Nickleby. Ralph is a cruel man; he cares only for his business and does not care for his relatives. He hates Nicholas, being reminded of his dead brother on sight. He finds Nicholas a poorly-paying job in a school in Yorkshire, as an assistant to Wackford Squeers. The one-eyed squeers is an unpleasant man, with a penchant for violence. Soon, Nicholas discovers that the diabolical Squeers is running a scam, extorting the parents for taking care of their unwanted children. To make matters worse, his daughter showers Nicholas with attention he clearly does not desire. This novel is a classic tale loved by English language readers around the world.
