Munshi Premchand’s Nirmala is a Hindi classic novel. In it, a fifteen year old girl is forced to marry an old widower, and her life seems to have become turned on its head by fate. The novel discusses the problems of the institution of marriage and shows how child marriages have worked against the women in this largely partriarchal society. The book is an example of Hindi literature at its finest and will interest students of Hindi literature. About Premchand Munshi Premchand was an Indian writer best remembered for his Hindustani literature. His real name was Dhanpat Rai Srivastav, and he also wrote under the name of Nawab Rai. Hailed as one of the best Hindi writers in history, he was called the "Upanyas Samrat" and is best remembered for The Mystery of God's Abode, Prema, Rangbhoomi and Kaayakalp. The current title is also published in English as The Second Wife.
